Key information

Plan before pregnancy

Discuss pregnancy before conception when possible. Your team may want to review disease activity, kidney health, blood pressure, relevant antibodies and current medicines.

Review medicines early

Some medicines may be continued in pregnancy while others may need to be changed well before conception. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own; medication decisions should be made with the clinicians managing your lupus and pregnancy.

Patient guide

Disease control matters

Pregnancy planning is generally safer when lupus is well controlled. Individual timing depends on your health and should be discussed with your specialist team.

Special monitoring

Some patients need additional monitoring because of kidney disease, antiphospholipid antibodies, anti-Ro/SSA or anti-La/SSB antibodies, hypertension or other factors.
